The puppies, cakes, cinema and Sports day

The children have been very excited these last few weeks because Penny, Grandma's dog has been expecting puppies. Then two Sundays ago we got the call, so before church we headed to grandma's.

The children were in their element. They even got to see two being born. Of course the girls want to go to grandma's all the time now to see them.

The following weekend we took the children to the cinema for fathers day treat. At church the children made brownies which they reluctantly gave to daddy.
Last week it was sports day. Mummy got to watch Eden and Daddy got to watch the girls. They came second or first in their races.

The Starley Wedding

Elder Starley was one of the hard working missionaries in our ward who we enjoyed having in our home, so when we got an invitation to his wedding we jumped at the chance to attend.  Whilst there we met one of the last missionaries to serve in our ward whilst Jason was bishop. We enjoyed spending time catching up at the reception.

The wedding blessing was beautiful and the bride looked gorgeous.

We had a propeller plane take us which I found quite terrifying.  We has some time to explore the island which was really beautiful.
It was delightful to have time as a couple by ourselves. Really refreshing.

This is summer

So we are in full swing of the summer term.  Mia took part in the mini Olympics representing Randlay, I wasn't working that day so got to see her participate and was able to take her and her friends to and from the event.

After school activities have included work on fractions and playing in the garden. (Eden has re-discovered the joys of kicking a football about and I keep having to say "mind the windows!")

Daddy has been busy working away a lot, so we had a sleepover at the Kimbers one weekend which was lovely.  The children got to play outside in the country and enjoyed looking at the new lambs.

They enjoyed drawing a large picture after Sammy taped some paper to a table. It was interesting to see their doodles.

This week we made a bug hotel out of a plastic bottle decorated with some tape.  The children had fun hunting for the best place to put it in the garden.

May, may, may

Here I go with the old cliche....the months are just flying by. I can hardly believe that this is the last half term holiday before we break up for summer.  This month has been somewhat disappointing weather wise, nevertheless, I have endeavoured to make sure the children spend more time outside.  I bought them a nature discovery kit complete with net, tweezers, magnifying glass and pot.

I love the attire they chose to wear when we went exploring in the garden, turning over stones.

They turned over lots of rocks and stones in the garden.

On one of the rainy days, the children spontaneously built a fort in the garden, I had to force myself to stop saying "you're getting that dirty/messy" in favour of just letting them have fun.  When they started arguing about who was getting wet, I wrapped it up and they came inside!

They were happy to snuggle up in blankets and watch some TV.

Later on in the month, Aldi were selling pineapples for 69p so before we ate it, I led the children in a still life session; I've still got the picture I drew when I did this with my mummy when I was the same age as the girls.

One day Mia came home, really excited about a project she did at school using wax crayons.  We decided to recreate the project at home, and thanks to Mia's instructions, it was very successful.

The week leading up to half term and half term itself I was reminded by my body to slow down, so Sarah, beloved Sarah came to the rescue on the Tuesday after Bank Holiday when Jason had to go back to work.

On another day, we had the pleasure of looking after the Steven's children. We played rounders in the field and went to the park.

One day while I was making dinner, I came down to find that the kids had rigged up a zip wire.
My first reaction was to yell "DO NOT slide down this it's DANGEROUS".

Ismay however merely informed me that it wasn't to transport people, but food, like the borrowers did!

Here, they are, my little borrowers:

We had a garden day:

On the last day of the holidays we had a "relax" day, we did some drawing and had popcorn and watched movies and looked at information books.

Before we knew it, it was back to school.  One day last week, we came across a dead bird in the garden.  Before burying it, Ismay used her tweezers to inspect it, using an encyclopaedia to identify the various different parts.

Eden has managed to accumulate some marbles (from his Grandma possibly?) and it was been nice to watch him and Mia playing together nicely as they've invented their own games.
